Geek+ and FDL Group Implement Sorting Robots to Accelerate E-Commerce

Geek+ worked with a leading systems integrator to enable a Greek B2C logistics firm provide efficient last-mile delivery services.

With the help of integrator FDL Group, Geek+ has deployed 29 sorting robots to help employees at an Athinaiki S.A. warehouse in Greece, facilitating last-mile deliveries.

Geekplus Technology Co. today announced the successful deployment of sorting robots in the warehouse of Athinaiki S.A., a logistics and transport service provider specializing in last-mile delivery in Greece.

“We are very excited to see our sorting robots provide Athinaiki S.A. with the speed and accuracy needed for excellent last-mile delivery services,” stated Jackson Zhang, vice president of Geek+ Europe. “With Geek+ and FDL, intelligent automation is easily accessible to Greek companies.” 

Founded in 2015, Geek+ applies robotics and artificial intelligence to warehouse operations and supply chain management. The Beijing-based company said it has more than 1,500 employees and 300 global customers. It claimed that it has deployed more than 20,000 robots worldwide.

Geek+ works with local partner 

For the Athinaiki implementation, Geek+ partnered with FDL Group, a supply chain systems integrator and the exclusive distributor of Geek+ autonomous mobile robots in Greece and Cyprus. It was Geek+'s second project in the region.

The FDL Group has 11 distribution centers in the Aspropyrgos area around Athens, and one in Thessaloniki, in the area of ​​Sindos. The group is also expanding its activities in Cyprus, with five distribution centers. In addition, FDL Group maintains a strong international transport network in France, Spain, the U.K., Portugal, the Netherlands, Poland, and Italy.

Set in a 562 sq. m (6,049.3 sq. ft.) warehouse, 29 autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) now support warehouse employees by handling sorting of 1,400 to 1,500 parcels per hour. Today, employees will put ordered goods onto sorting robots that will automatically transfer them to one of the 104 sorting cages bound for different destinations following a simple chutes layout made up of QR codes, said the companies.

With no need for wires or fixed infrastructure, operations can flexibly scale if there is a sudden change in throughput demand by simply adjusting the number of robots and sorting destinations, Geek+ said. 

The system can be immediately set up into existing facilities, saving considerable infrastructure costs, leading to fast ROI. Controlled by Geek+'s Robot Management System (RMS) and powered by algorithms, the system monitors robot traffic and balances the task of each robot to achieve maximum sorting efficiency. This enables 3x more productivity and 99.99% sorting accuracy, it said.
