Bright Machines Inc., which provides modular “microfactories” and “software-defined manufacturing,” announced in May 2021 that it will raise $435 million in a merger with special-purpose acquisition company (SPAC) SCVX. Such SPAC deals have been a trend lately, giving robotics startups a new source of capital. San Francisco-based Bright Machines said it hopes to revolutionize manufacturing and is also planning an IPO for later this year.
