Norwegian provider of frameless motors Alva Industries is demonstrating components developed through partnerships at Automatica 2025.
The trade show is being hosted by Messe München GmbH June 24-27 at the Messe München Trade Fair Center in Munich, Germany.
Alva will demonstrate servo drives from Copley Controls and Elmo Motion Control in hall B6 booth 521. Elmo will also exhibit its systems in hall A6, booth 510.
Planetary gearbox and drive systems provider Neugart GmbH will showcase fully integrated automated guided vehicles (AGVs) drive units in hall B6 booth 203 and at Alva’s booth
At the core of each demo is Alva’s SlimTorq motor series. These torque motors are designed for motion control applications that require low cogging, high torque density, and compact integration.
With its frameless, slotless design and large through-hole, SlimTorq offers the flexibility and performance required in robotics, gimbals, and precision medical environments.
SlimTorq is manufactured using Alva’s patented FiberPrinting technology. This process enables ironless windings with up to 60% copper fill factor, resulting in motors with low inertia and excellent thermal performance.
Alva said FiberPrinting enables it to produce motors in almost any shape or size, maintaining thin footprints with high efficiency, high torque density, reliability, and scalability.
Alva and Elmo are demonstrating a complete setup of SlimTorq driven by Elmo’s high-performance Platinum Harmonica servo drives.
Alva said seamless performance is the result of successful compatibility testing between the two companies, confirming precision control, efficient performance, and smooth integration.
“By combining Elmo’s precision and reliability with Alva’s compact, light, precise, and high-torque technology, we’re creating a powerful synergy that delivers exceptional value to our shared existing and potential new customers,” said Nicolas Giraudo, Alva CCO. “Their proven expertise in delivering high-performance and reliable drivers and controllers across a wide range of applications aligns seamlessly with our SlimTorq motor portfolio.
Platinum Harmonica is an ultra-compact servo drive delivering up to 400 W of continuous power with over 99% efficiency. It operates on a 12–60 VDC control supply, supports functional safety, and delivers up to 5 A continuous (3.5 A RMS) with peak currents up to 2× Ic.
With an output voltage reaching >95% of the DC bus voltage at 22 kHz, this compact unit is engineered for applications that demand high power density, smooth control, and reliable integration into space-constrained designs.
“The collaboration with Alva is truly innovative,” said Ronen Sadan, Elmo VP of marketing. “Their unique motor technology adds a new level to many industrial applications. We encourage show visitors to see the results for themselves at Automatica.”
Alva and Massachusetts-based Copley Controls are demonstrating SlimTorq integrated with Copley’s compact, efficient, and high-performance Accelnet BPL-090-30 servo drive to deliver smooth, precise motion in a ready-to-integrate package.
Alva said this collaboration underscores the shared commitment of both companies to advance performance, reliability, and flexibility in demanding automation and robotics applications.
“Partnering with Copley Controls allows us to show just how seamlessly SlimTorq integrates into advanced motion systems,” said Anton Franzén, Alva director of product management & application engineering. “This demo proves that high performance and clean integration can go hand in hand.”
The Copley Accelnet BPL-090-30 is a DC-powered servo drive delivering up to 15 A continuous current for position, velocity, and torque control.
Featuring CANopen DS-402 support and multiple motion modes - including profile position, interpolated position (PVT), and homing - the BPL offers fast commissioning via CME 2 software and compatibility with both incremental and absolute encoders. Copley said its compact size and multi-mode feedback port make it a versatile choice for embedded motion systems.
“We’re excited to demonstrate our high-performance servo drives alongside Alva’s zero-cogging torque motor,” said Ryan LaVoie, Copley director of product management & marketing. “Together, we’re showcasing a motion control solution that delivers unmatched precision, smoothness, and efficiency - ideal for today’s most demanding applications.”
Alva and Neugart are demonstrating two fully-integrated and functional AGV drive units at both companies' booths:
Each unit features a Neugart NGV gearbox combined with a SlimTorq motor, delivering smooth and precise motion ideal for autonomous and robotic mobility applications.
“This is a powerful combination of technologies - our SlimTorq motors pair naturally with Neugart’s NGV drives to create a compact and high-performance solution for mobile platforms and robotics,” Giraudo said.
Neugart’s NGV series is a compact drive system tailored for AGVs and autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), combining gearbox, motor flange, and wheel hub into one integrated unit.
“Our innovative combination of the Neugart NGV planetary gearbox and the ALVA SlimTorq motor offers a remarkably compact drive solution for AGVs,” said Marcel Geurts, Neugart product manager. “This concept study impressively demonstrates how powerful drive solutions can be implemented in the smallest of spaces - with a load capacity of over one ton per drive wheel.”
