Cogniteam Uses NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin in Nimbus Operating System

Cogniteam says the new edge AI and robotics platform provides more capabilities for robot developers and manufacturers.

Although new tools have cut development times for robotics software, companies still face challenges when integrating new technologies, according to Cogniteam. The company, which has created the Nimbus low-code operating system for robotics development, this week said it has integrated the latest NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin platform into its software packets.

“The NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin is a huge leap for manufacturers and developers who want greater AI capabilities on their edge robots,” said Dr. Yehuda Elmaliah, co-founder and CEO of Cogniteam. “We were pleased to see that the development of this new module integrates seamlessly with the Nimbus Operating System, enabling deployed robots to handle greater AI computational abilities.”

Cogniteam has been developing artificial intelligence technologies for more than 10 years. The Petach Tikva, Israel-based company said it has worked with companies such as Amazon, Mitsubishi, and Siemens on mapping, navigation, and autonomous decision making. Cogniteam now packages its mission-management system as the cloud-based Nimbus.

Cogniteam aims to ease robot development

NVIDIA Corp. made its Jetson AGX Orin 32GB production modules available last month. However, some industrial users had concerns about the ease of deployment, according to Cogniteam.

As a preferred member of the NVIDIA Partner Network, Cogniteam had early access to NVIDIA's Jetson AGX Orin developer kit, which allowed it to prepare a streamlined process for the new system on module. The company said it included all the necessary Jetson Orin drivers and software components in its Nimbus software platform.

With a few clicks from the browser, developers can now drag and drop ready-made NVIDIA Isaac software development kit (SDK) GEMs as "dockerized" components in Nimbus, said Cogniteam. Users also have better support for ROS 2 components and can upgrade them remotely, from anywhere in the world, it added.

Jetson AGX Orin to provide power for AI decision making

With Nimbus, robotics developers can now quickly and easily get a robot with Jetson Orin up and running, Cogniteam said. This is particularly useful for inspection, maintenance, sanitization, service, and various data-intensive scenarios that require a high degree of autonomy, it said.

As more robots gain cloud connectivity, AGX Orin’s greater computing power will meet the market’s demand for outfitting robots with greater autonomous capabilities, including AI decision making.

“Relying on Nimbus with Jetson AGX Orin, we dragged, dropped, and ran multiple AI models simultaneously on the robot,” said Ari Yakir, vice president of research and development at Cogniteam. “These skills included localization, gesture recognition, skeleton recognition, object recognition, simultaneous localization and mapping [SLAM], and beyond.”

In last year's NVIDIA fall GTC, CEO Jensen Huang describes the revolution in robotics, fueled by NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin for embedded computing at the edge.
