Outrider
Outrider achieved enterprise-grade information security certification for logistics yard automation.
Outrider, a provider of autonomous yard operations for logistics hubs, received what it said is an industry-first SOC 2 Type 2 certification for its automation technology.
The certification comes after an audit conducted by Prescient Security, a security and compliance attestation for B2B SaaS companies worldwide.
Outrider said the certification ensures that its policies, governance and controls meet the highest standards of security and compliance demanded by the chief information security officers (CISOs) of Fortune 500 logistics-dependent companies.
"As cyber threats become more frequent and sophisticated, enterprises need assurance that AI-powered logistics systems are built with security at their core," said Bob Hall, COO at Outrider. "While security and compliance for indoor warehouse automation are well established, the emerging category of industrial-grade autonomous systems for use outdoors, adjacent to logistics facilities, introduces yet another set of data security concerns to address. By securing SOC 2 Type 2 certification, Outrider has now done the work to provide data security for autonomous yard operations."
Over the past year, Outrider said it spent hundreds of hours testing and reviewing its cloud software, APIs, infrastructure and data governance policies against a rigorous, prescribed process.
This included deploying threat detection services, enabling multi-region failover, ensuring scheduled and ad hoc backups and operating across Azure, AWS and Google Cloud.
Additionally, Outrider said it employs secure software development lifecycle best practices to safeguard safety-critical autonomous functions, such as obstacle detection and braking. The certification also validates that Outrider has the processes to monitor anomalies, detect threats and ensure teams respond in a timely fashion and follow security protocols consistently.
"Achieving SOC 2 Type 2 is a significant milestone for any technology provider, but it's especially critical in emerging industries like autonomous vehicle operations," said Sammy Chowdhury, co-founder and CCO of Prescient Security. "Outrider's certification demonstrates its commitment to enterprise-grade security and compliance practices and helps assure customers that sensitive information is protected at the highest standards."
Outrider said its achievement comes at a pivotal moment for the logistics industry. With autonomous vehicles moving heavy freight around busy distribution hubs, the system's software must be secure and physically safe.
"Secure is safe, and safe is secure - especially in a landscape where new threats appear by the minute," said John Stein, head of IT Operations at Outrider. "That's even more critical in the world of AI, where resilience and trust have to be built in from the start. Security is about the cloud; safety is about the autonomous vehicle. The two together give enterprise CISOs the confidence to deploy Outrider autonomous vehicles and scale with us."
Outrider's SOC 2 Type 2 certification was achieved in accordance with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) standards for System and Organization Controls (SOC) for Service Organizations (SSAE 18). To maintain its SOC 2 Type 2 certification, Outrider must pass yearly audits conducted by an accredited external auditor by demonstrating high levels of security and compliance.
