Tesla revealed its Optimus 2 general-purpose humanoid robot in Dec. 2023. The Austin, Texas-based company’s humanoid was prominently featured at its We, Robot event in Oct. 2024, pouring drinks and interacting with people throughout the event space. While industry professionals have questioned the use cases of humanoids, Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk said at the event Optimus could become an “autonomous assistant, humanoid friend.” Enabled by technology derived from its automotive products, Tesla believes Optimus will eventually reach the consumer market with a $20,000-$30,000 price tag.
