Top 10 Noteworthy Robotic Systems at Automate 2023

While ForwardX made its North American debut at ProMat in March, it still had some news to share at Automate. The company unveiled for the first time in the U.S. its Lynx heavy-duty AMR. The tugger can carry payloads up to 3,306 lb. With the Lynx, the company is going after the automotive market.

Automakers are increasing their investment in robotics as they develop new manufacturing processes to develop electric vehicles, the company noted. It’s hoping to capitalize on that demand with the Lynx.

Using lidar-based SLAM (simultaneous localization and mapping) and deep-learning computer vision, the Lynx AMR is designed to complete heavy-duty rack-towing tasks. The robot is available in two configurations—the Lynx U100 and the Lynx 01500—which offer payload capacities of 240 kg (529 lb.) and 340 kg (749 lb.).

Outside of the automotive market, the company is also seeing increased demand from its warehouse customers.

“The mobile robot market is still expanding,” said Jennifer Samples, North America vice president at ForwardX Robotics. “One 3PL prospect has a facility with 800 job reqs, and forklift drivers need seven years’ experience. It has 30 to 40 lifts operating at a time. Demographics is driving demand.”
