As robots become more perceptive, they need to be tied to systems that can effectively analyze the data they gather. alwaysAI Inc. and Formant Inc. yesterday announced that they have integrated their video analytics and cloud platform, respectively, to help enterprises get more value out of their robot fleets.

“This partnership now allows enterprises to gain more valuable information in real time through a unique integration between Formant and alwaysAI,” said Marty Beard, co-founder and CEO of alwaysAI. “We are excited to be able to partner with a cutting-edge company like Formant to bring the power of computer vision to robots.”

San Diego-based alwaysAI provides developers and enterprises a platform for building, training, deploying, and managing computer vision applications on Internet of Things (IoT) devices and autonomous vehicles. "We make computer vision come alive on the edge -- where work and life happen," said the company.

Enterprises are looking to deploy robots faster, improve their performance, maximize utilization, and transform data into actionable insights, noted the partners.

alwaysAI’s video analytics include smart obstacle avoidance, analysis of gauges and meters, and sensor fusion with 3D point-map systems.

Software engineers, roboticists, and product managers from leading technology companies founded Formant.io to bridge the gap between autonomous systems and the people running them. The San Francisco-based company offers features such as teleoperation, fleet management, and data visualization.

Formant said it also offers cloud-based observability and customer portals. It claimed that it can help customers extend robotics capabilities through easy-to-use application programming interfaces (APIs) that work seamlessly with alwaysAI computer vision applications.

Partners aim to serve specific industries

The integration of alwaysAI's computer vision and Formant's data platform will provide real-time robust data analytics for better business decisions, said the companies.

Formant and alwaysAI said they will together bring robotic vision to reality for customers in construction, oil and gas, manufacturing, and retail.

“In the context of robotics, analytics is essentially turning raw data originating from robots into insights for making better decisions," said Jeff Linnell, CEO of Formant. “With the addition of computer vision, Enterprises are now getting even better, more intelligent information to act on."

alwaysAI Co-Founder and CEO Marty Beard, Co-Founder and CTO Steve Griset, and Product Manager Todd Gleed covered how to easily train a computer vision model in the cloud.
