MissionGO Unmanned Systems tapped Chris Corgnati to be its new president in part because of his technical understanding of the company’s products and the red tape required to expand their reach. Baltimore-based MissionGO provides unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) training, infrastructure inspections, and the delivery of medical supplies and human organs. “We are an aviation services company that just happens to specialize in unmanned aircrafts,” Corgnati told Robotics 24/7. Corgnati is a former U.S. Navy captain and has experience in the unmanned aviation business and navigating federal goverment processes. One of his first priorities is to help the company receive Federal…
How to Navigate a Maturing Warehouse Robotics Market
Investments in artificial intelligence and robotics have continued to grow worldwide, according to a new report from the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence. As more industries adopt AI and automation, concerns have arisen about ethics and potential regulation, said the report. “2021 was the year that AI went from an emerging technology to a mature technology—we're no longer dealing with a speculative part of scientific research, but instead something that has real-world impact, both positive and negative,” said Jack Clark, co-chair of the AI Index. “This year's AI Index tells us that AI is being integrated into the economy…

Cleaning and polishing ship propellers is a dangerous and time-consuming task for human commercial divers. Two well-known Danish investors have become co-owners of SubBlue Robotics, which has developed a remote-controlled robot for the job. The shipping industry has realized the potential benefits of an improved working environment, time saved in port, and a significant reduction in the use of climate-impacting bunker oil as a consequence of ships having cleaner propellers. “SubBlue Robotics have moved into an especially interesting niche in the automation of the shipping industry,” said Thomas Visti Jensen, owner of Visti Unlimited. “It is a problem that is…
Soon, industrial robots in warehouses could be smart enough to know which one has the right of way in busy aisles. Researchers at the Rochester Institute of Technology, or RIT, are developing an intelligent materials handling system for warehouses that integrates lidar sensors and artificial intelligence. With supply chain challenges brought on by the pandemic and increased demands for e-commerce, technology can provide the support businesses need to improve productivity, efficiency, and safety in a warehouse setting. “This is one area where robotics and autonomous material handling can help,” said Michael Kuhl, professor of industrial and systems engineering in RIT’s…
Swedish freight technology company Einride AB announced today at the South by Southwest Conference its first remote Pod operator—long time trucking veteran Tiffany Heathcott. Remote Pod operators will observe and support Einride Pods that are operating in automated drive mode to ensure they run optimally and safely as they ship goods on behalf of Einride’s customers, the company said. In order to become a remote Pod operator at Einride, operators go through a full trainee program, which was created and accredited by Einride personnel. A supporting hand Heathcott is the first to complete the company's training, but the company said…
