Automate 2026: Elmo unveils smaller, higher-power motion controller and servo drives

Elmo released new servo drives and motion controllers at Automate 2026 in Chicago.

Servo drive technology company Elmo, a worldwide leader in servo drive technology, announced the availability of a new motion controller and new servo drives at Automate 2026 in Chicago.

The company said that its new offerings can be used for a wide range of applications in industrial, harsh and extreme environments across temperature, altitude, sea depth, humidity, vibration and more.

Elmo said that it is focused on providing the industry’s smallest servo drives and motion controllers with the highest power density and certified functional safety features. The company said that these products set new benchmarks for power density, expand Elmo’s existing Platinum line, and introduce the Titanium line that brings new levels of multi-axis compactness, intelligence, and safety integration to enable smaller, smarter, and safer systems. Elmo said that the safety functionalities implemented at the drive level reduce the need for much of the safety and hardware cabling.

“Our customers need more than just compact size and power density,” said Elizabeth Victor, director of sales, Elmo US. “Functional safety is critical for many automation systems and can reduce or even eliminate the need for safety cages. By integrating functional safety into our controllers and servo drives, we enable OEMs to implement safety features at the foundation of their motion subsystem. With our certified offerings, we also help simplify the design and certification of systems that must meet strict functional safety standards.”

Elmo provided the following details of its new products at Automate 2026:

  • Titanium Castanet servo drive: Provides compact dual-axis capabilities with functional safety* in the size of a matchbox
  • Titanium Harmonica servo drive: Ultra-compact dual-axis drive engineered to maximize power density up to 50A/100V, 35A/200V with functional safety*
  • Titanium Maestro motion controller: Next-generation multi-axis motion controller with support for up to 256 axes out of the 16 axes at the Ethercat speed of 100uSec
  • Platinum Jori 30A/60A servo drives: Delivers up to 20/40kW of continuous power in a compact package with functional safety* and introduces SIC (Silicon Carbide) power stage technology
  • Platinum Cymbal servo drive: A rugged package that provides high power up to 17kW in a compact footprint with functional safety*
    • * denotes that the safety certification is currently in process

The company said that the new Titanium line simplifies design with multi-axis capabilities. For example, one Titanium Castanet can replace two Elmo Twitter servo drives. The final implementation is almost half the size of two Elmo Twitters, and engineers can synchronize x/y positioning with a single bus rather than having to synchronize two buses.

Elmo added that these servo drives integrate a high-performance processor and bring GaN (Gallium Nitride) technology, alongside more advanced technologies, to enhance performance and switching efficiency to further enable next-generation, intelligent motor systems.

The company said that its servo drives are used in any robotic systems and special technologies, including:

Elmo said that these applications often require a multitude of servo drives that are used independently to manage the position, velocity, and torque of motors for synchronized motion. In addition, the company said that the same system may need a variety of servo drives to support the different motors, from large motors moving an entire cobot to many small motors operating a small robotic hand.

“We provide a comprehensive servo drive portfolio to meet the specific drive and control needs of our customers,” Victor added. “Each of our product lines delivers a range of capabilities to match varying functionality, safety and cost requirements.”

Elmo said that it supports its servo drives with the Elmo Application Studio III (EASIII) and Composer2 to enable machine designers to develop, test and implement their own control algorithms.
