SICK Sensor Intelligence Displays New Object Detection and Sensing Technologies at PACK EXPO

SICK Sensor Intelligence is at PACK EXPO this week in Chicago, showcasing its object detection and vision technologies.

SICK Sensor Intelligence is showcasing two recently announced products at the PACK EXPO International trade show and conference in Chicago this week – the safeVisonary2 and Roller Sensor Bar.

The safeVisionary2 is a 3D time-of-flight camera designed to be used for autonomous mobile robots, cobots, and other industrial automation. The camera has 2m (6.5 ft.) safety range and up to four field switching cases. It is based on the time-of-flight system used on SICK’s Visionary-T Mini. It has Performance Level c (PL c).

First in new safety line of products

It is the first product in the Waldkirch, Germany-based company’s 3D safety portfolio. SICK said it developed the camera to “support customers in becoming fully autonomous in addition to providing 3D localization and object recognition.”

“The compact 3D camera helps to increase productivity and provides precise 3D measurement data to enhance automation,” the company added.

Roller Sensor Bar designed to be more affordable alternative

The Roller Sensor Bar (RSB) is a conveyor sensor that is mounted between rollers on a line. The company said it is offering the product as an alternative to more expensive sensors that are mounted above the side frame.

“SICK offers the RSB as a solution to high installation costs and packaging variations to help logistics and production processes run more smoothly and efficiently,” the company said.

In addition, the company is showcasing a host of its data services and products that provide asset management, condition monitoring, and predictive services.

“With these services, data analysis can be run to make intelligent decisions based on the data to optimize processes,” the company said. “This helps to increase throughput, availability, and productivity.”

Robot arms placed with end-of-arm tools (EOAT) are also on display taking advantage of SICK’s object detection technologies.

“On display at PACK EXPO, you’ll see how robot arms are enhancing picking and how they can create a safe and productive work environment,” the company said.

 SICK is located at booth N5929 on the trade show floor. It will also be hosting several demonstrations and one educational session focused on intelligent sensors, robotic end-effectors, and vision solutions.  

PACK EXPO in Chicago is put on by the Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies and features hundreds of exhibitors and educational sessions. It is one of several PACK EXPO the organization puts on around the world.
