10 Autonomous Approaches to Disinfection During the COVID-19 Pandemic

ADAMMS-UV

A team at the University of Southern California (USC) Viterbi School of Engineering used a UR cobot with a Robotiq gripper to create the ADAMMS-UV robot. Robotiq’s 2F-85 gripper goes beyond handling objects and uses ultraviolet light to disinfect spaces that are difficult for people to reach. The system limits worker exposure to pathogens because they can guide the robot remotely. In addition to cameras for guidance and path planning, the ADAMMS-UV robot uses infrared cameras to build a 3D model of an area.

Robots can relieve humans from dull, dirty, and dangerous work, but for the past year, extra attention has focused on safe disinfection.
