Güdel is showcasing how vertical and floor-mounted motion tackle grinding processes and challenges. The company will demo a FANUC R-1000 robot with a grinding end-of-arm tool mounted on a TrackMotion Vertical TMV, which itself is mounted on a TrackMotion Floor TMF system. Systems integrator, Titan Robotics, developed the application for grinding large weldments on off-road equipment for its major off-road equipment manufacturing customer. By placing an articulated robot on a vertical axis and translating that system along a floor-mounted track, the robot effectively gains two additional degrees of freedom. In grinding, this added motion allows the tool to maintain consistent orientation, contact pressure, and path speed across large surfaces - all without re-clamping the part. Uniform material removal, stable surface finish and repeatable results over long cycles are the difference between a grinding process that scales and one that constantly needs manual intervention.
